To make an unscheduled closing of the Library, the Administrative Librarian or Librarian-in-Charge has the authority to make the decision to either close early or for an entire day(s).

The following pay policy will apply for unscheduled closings:

  1. An employee already at work will be paid for his/her scheduled work shift.

  2. If the Library decides to close before an employee’s scheduled shift start time, the employee will be paid for his/her full shift.

  3. The Administrative Librarian or Librarian-in-Charge also has the authority to modify or change employees’ work schedules to accommodate the operating hours of the library in case of early closure or late openings. All efforts will be made to work with any employee whose schedule may be affected by any unscheduled closings. If an employee is unable or unwilling to comply with such a request to change his/her schedule, then vacation, personal or unpaid leave may be taken, with prior approval of the Administrative Librarian as stated in the Palos Heights Public Library Personnel Policy and as long as staffing needs are met.
