REPORTING OF ABSENCES
An employee who is unable to report to work must notify his/her supervisor and/or the Library Director each day that he/she is absent unless he/she is told that this is not necessary. Employees must report their absence within a reasonable time prior to their starting time or they may be considered absent without pay.
TARDINESS
Tardiness must be kept to a minimum. Any significant time lost on account of tardiness will be deducted from the paycheck, and will be cause to review continued employment with the Library.
DEMOTIONS
The Library Director may demote an employee, full-time or part-time, for reasons of the employee’s failure to meet the requirement of his class of work, or at the request of the employee. Salary adjustment in cases of demotion shall be made as appropriate. Employees who have satisfactorily completed their introductory period in the position from which they are demoted, may appeal the action in accordance with the procedures set forth under the Complaint Policy.
DISMISSAL
The Board of Trustees reserves the right to lay off employees whenever it deems necessary.
All Library employees serve “at will.” The following are examples of unacceptable behavior that may lead to disciplinary action up to and including immediate dismissal:
- That the employee is incompetent, negligent, or inefficient in the performance of his/her duties.
- That the employee has been abusive in his/her attitude and language, or has been abusive in his conduct resulting in physical harm or injury to his/her fellow employees or the public.
- That the employee has violated any lawful or official regulation, order or rule, or failed to obey any lawful and reasonable direction given him/her by his/her superior when such a violation or failure to obey amounts to insubordination or serious breach of discipline which may reasonably be expected to result in lower morale in the organization or result in loss, inconvenience, or injury to the Library or to the public.
- That the employee has taken for personal use a fee, gift, or other valuable thing in the course of his work or in connection with it without reporting its receipt to the Library Director.
- That the employee has been absent without leave, or has failed to report after a leave of absence has expired or has been disapproved, revoked, or canceled by his/her superior.
- Possession of alcoholic beverages or illegal drugs on Library property.
