The Library recognizes that the use of its internet- and print-ready computers is one of the most important services provided to certain members of the community. There are a large number of residents without computers, internet connections, or smartphones of their own who are wholly reliant on the Library for access to computer-based information.
The Library also recognizes that computers present a number of high-touch surfaces which are generally set up in a way that is not conducive to proper social distancing.
It is essential that the Library come up with a policy and set of procedures that will allow for the safe use of its computers during the current health crisis.
- The Library will provide as many computers for patron use within the building as is feasible under current circumstances.
- Computers will be spaced at a minimum of six (6) feet from all other computers as well as potential gathering points such as staff workstations.
- At least five computers will be made available at any given time for public use.
- Computer use will be tightly controlled so that staff can ensure proper cleaning of the computer and surrounding workspace in between each different user.
- All computer use will require a reservation.
- Reservations will be for up to one hour per user per day.
- Reservations may be made in advance by calling the Library’s Public Services Desk.
- Reservations may be made in person at the Public Services Desk. Any available computer not currently in use can be reserved on the spot.
- Staff will not monitor the specific use made of any computer other than to note the start and end time of a user’s session as it is vital that staff know when a user has ended their session.
- All computer use will require a reservation.
- Once a user has ended their session or their time limit has expired, staff will be notified to clean that workstation.
- Signage will be placed at each workstation notifying users of this policy and requesting that users notify staff when they are finished using the workstation.
- After a user has ended their session and left the area, and before another user can be allowed to use that workstation, staff will thoroughly clean the workstation.
- Cleaning will consist of thoroughly wiping down the table, chair, keyboard, mouse, monitor
